State Rep. Tina Courpas received the unanimous endorsement of
Republican delegates from Greenwich and Stamford on Thursday night at Greenwich Town Hall, officially beginning her campaign for a second term representing the 149th House District.
The 149th District covers parts of Greenwich and Stamford.
“Connecticut is one of the three most taxed states in the US, our long-term obligations are mounting, and the way the state funds our schools isn’t robust enough for students or sustainable for our towns and cities. Our state needs balanced, common sense leadership to tackle these problems. They are solvable,” Courpas said, adding, “The people of Greenwich and Stamford sent me to represent them on exactly these issues, and that’s what I have done. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to make a difference for this great state.”
Courpas was elected to the legislature in 2024. She is a member of the Appropriations Committee, Education Committee, Housing Committee and is ranking Republican member of the Select Committee on Special Education. She is also an appointed member of the Governors Blue-Ribbon Commission on K-12 Education Funding and Accountability.
In a press release, Allyson Cowin, long-time member of the Greenwich RTM and RTC who nominated the candidate said, “Tina is a rare voice for fiscal responsibility, compassion and common sense in Hartford. She has already become a leader in our State Legislature through her hard work and brilliant understanding of complex issues. Tina has a bright future in our state’s government.”
Vin Candelora, the CT House Minority leader said, “Tina has been one of the standout members of our caucus – and more importantly, an outstanding servant for her constituents and the state. It is rare for a first-term lawmaker to dive as deeply as she has into the most complex issues we face, from pension debt to education funding to
housing policy. Connecticut won’t get pointed in the right direction without people like Tina in the General Assembly, and I look forward to everything she’ll accomplish for Greenwich, Stamford, and our state in the years ahead.”
Courpas achieved the required fundraising threshold to qualify for matching funds ahead of the state deadline.
Courpas was first elected in 2024, defeating incumbent Democrat, Rachel Khanna. She has more than two decades of experience in investment banking and corporate law to public service. She began her career at Goldman, Sachs & Co, and worked most recently at Silver Point Capital in Greenwich. She also served as Executive Director of The Hellenic Initiative and as Executive Director of the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women in Connecticut.
A 20-year resident of Glenville, Courpas holds an A.B., magna cum laude, from Princeton University and a J.D. from Columbia Law
School. She is the daughter of Greek immigrants and the mother of four children.
Courpas will hold her campaign kick-off on Tuesday June 2, at 6:00pm at the Glenville Fire House in Greenwich, with guests including Fred Camillo, First Selectman of Greenwich, Lauren Rabin, Selectwoman of Greenwich, and Sen. Ryan Fazio, Republican Nominee for Governor of CT.
