A group of ten Greenwich High School students will attempt to beat the Guinness World Record for the longest distance danced in a Conga line, and the entire Greenwich community is invited to see it happen.

“Conga4All” is the brainchild of Omar Galal, a junior at Greenwich High School, who is working diligently to prepare for this town-wide celebration.

Omar explained that the main purpose of the event is to raise funds for the River House Adult Day Center.

“I think that just doing a bake sale fundraiser is a bit boring, so I just decided [on a] Guinness World Record,” Omar said.

The event will take place on June 17th at the Cardinal Stadium at Greenwich High School. The Conga line will begin dancing at 6:00 am to make some progress before the festivities begin. Starting from 8:00 am, the public is invited to stop by and join in the celebration, however, Omar described the timeframe of 10:00 am to 12:00 pm as the “peak hours” during which they will likely break the record.

The record will be broken by the team, who will need to circle the track more than sixty times to beat the current record of nearly 16 miles, but attendees are welcome to join in the fun and dance alongside them or cheer from the stands. Entry to the event is free and there will be food and drink available. Omar said, “We’d also love as many people as possible to come down to the event. That would be very meaningful to the cause.”

River House Adult Day Center is a medical model adult day center that supports aging adults and their caregivers. “Conga4All” will raise awareness and funds for this important organization, whose clients and families will attend the event.

Omar has set a goal to raise $20,000. Visit the GoFundMe page at https://gofund.me/5bd589ac to donate.
