Dave Theis Memorial Bench Press Meet on the Beach

Dave Theis served Greenwich in local government for many years. He was also an active weightlifting enthusiast and staunch supporter of the sport of Powerlifting.

powerliftersA meet will be held at Greenwich Point on Oct. 17 to honor Dave for his many contributions to the Greenwich community, including his support of all athletes. The meet is a non-sanctioned, open division benefit bench meet, open to men and women ages 16 and up, raw or equipment. The meet will use the “competitive pause.”

Weight Classes (two sub-divisions)

Men: 114, 123, 132, 148, 165, 181, 198, 220, 242, 275, 308, SHW

Women: 97, 105, 114, 123, 132, 148, 165, 181, 198, SHW

Weigh-in on Saturday, Oct. 17 is at 9:00am at Greenwich Point. (The rain date weigh-in is Oct. 24 at 9:00am). Lifting starts at 10:00am. Walk-ins are accepted on the day of the meet.

International Powerlifting Association (IPA) rules ad regulations for the bench press apply. The meet is a benefit. Custom awards will be distributed to all lifters in each weight class, male and female divisions. No team awards.

The meet is sponsored by the Greenwich YMCA where ave worked out with fellow lifters for many decades. The meet is set for Oct. 17 at Greenwich Point. Meet directors are Jim and Dave Micik (203) 921-5736. The entry fee is $55 before Oct. 10.
