Dozens of Charges for Man Who Attempted to Purchase $585 Chanel Sunglasses on Greenwich Ave

On Thursday Feb 21 at about 1:30pm Greenwich Police became aware of possible fraudulent activity at Sunglass Hut store at 260 Greenwich Ave.

Officers determined that a man, later identified as Juan M Rodriguez Torres, 34, of 40 Memorial Highway in New Rochelle, had attempted to fraudulently purchase a pair of Chanel sunglasses with a recommended retail price of $585 using someone else’s personal information.

Officers detained Mr. Torres and determined he had traveled to Greenwich to engage in fraudulent activity.

Torres was charged with criminal Attempt Larceny 5, 9 counts of Illegal Possession of Personal Identification Device, 9 counts of Illegal Production of Payment Card, 9 counts of Identity Theft 3, 10 counts of Forgery 2, and one count of Interfering with an Officer/Resisting arrest.

At the time of the arrest, Torres was unable to post his $50,000 bond and was held at GPD.
