YMCA of Greenwich Marlins Swim Team Has Strong Season Finish

The YMCA of Greenwich Marlins swim team had a strong showing in recent regional and national competitions, wrapping up another successful season for the swim program. The Marlins, who were honored this year as Bronze Medal Club by USA Swimming, contribute much of their success to the incredible hard work and dedication to building a strong sense of support and community within the team.

At the YMCA National Short Course Age Group Championships, the Marlins brought home a slew of wins in both individual and relay events.

Lucas Hodgson (10), Andres Ruh (12), and Conway Zhou (12) each one six individual events for the boys while Stephan Todorovis (14) and Christian Farricker (14) also had first place finishes. Meanwhile, Lexi Delasierra (12) and Ashley Hu (12) both won individual events for the girls. The boys relay teams also dominated in their age groups.

The 10 and under boys rely team won four events while the 11-12 year old boys also won four events, setting 2 CT state records in the 400 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay! The 13-14 year old boys relay team brought home an additional three wins. The boys team finished in 1st place with the Marlins winning fourth place overall!

The Marlins had a large group representing the YMCA of Greenwich at the Eastern Zone Speedo Sectionals in Ithaca, NY. Despite stiff competition and with several swimmers competing in their first national meet, 15 of the Marlins made it to finals, with the team finishing 5th out of a total 90 teams.

Wesleyan University Senior Championship:

The Marlins sent 22 swimmers to the Wesleyan University Senior Championships and came out with a strong 3rd place finish overall. The girls relay team, Malavika Pande, Sophie Jahan, Ailee Mendoza and Quinn Scannell) won the 200 FR Relay, while the boys team, Alex Jahan, Luca, DiCapua, Adam Ambrosey and Clayton Morikawa, won the 200 Medley and 400 Medley Relay. The girls 200 Medley Relay Team, Malavika Pande, Diana Tramontano, Ailee Mendoza, and Quinn Scannell (15-16), also won, setting a new CT State Record.

Zone Age Group Championships 

7 swimmers from the Marlins were selected by CT swim to participate in Zone Age Group Championships in Webster, NY.  Among those selected was Lucas Hodgson who had a great showing at the event, winning the 200 Free CT Record with a time of 2:03.07, the oldest time on record in CT from 1979. Additional Marlins swimmers who joined the Eastern Zone Team were Liam Flaherty, Ashely Hu, Lexi Delasierra, Eisuke Takahashi, Alex Ye, and Abhi Kumar.
