UPDATE: NMS Field Trip Bus Crashed After Unlicensed Operator of Car Failed to Maintain Lane

 

Update Thursday, April 30 2:00pm: In an update from Director of Communication for Greenwich Schools, said she had received a inquiries regarding the circumstances of the bus accident involving involving North Mianus School students returning from a field trip on Tuesday.

Eves said there were inquiries about the type of bus involved. The bus was not a “yellow school bus,” buy rather was a coach bus.

“In regard to the cause and circumstances of the accident, it is currently under investigation,” Eves said in the statement. “Inquiries regarding the accident investigation should be referred to the CT State Police. We are confident that the State Police will conduct a thorough investigation.”

According to the State Police, the driver of the car involved in the accident was “cited for Failure to Maintain Proper Lane and for Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License and was issued an infraction ticket. Eves said based on preliminary reports from adults at the accident scene, we have no immediate concerns with the actions of the bus driver.


 

UPDATE April 28 7:10pm: All North Mianus School students (37) in this afternoons bus accident have been examined and released with only minor bumps and bruises. A new bus and driver were dispatched and the students, staff and chaperones are on their way back to Greenwich.


 

Original Story April 28: One of two buses carrying North Mianus School fourth grade students returning from a field trip was involved in an accident north of New Haven on Route 91 on Tuesday.

According to Kim Eves, Director of Communication for Greenwich Schools, there are no reports of any serious injuries. However, students have been transported to Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT for examination along with teachers and parent chaperones.

Parents of the students were promptly notified. NMS Principal Angela Schmidt and Deputy Superintendent Ellen Flanagan are on route to the hospital. All students will be transported back to Greenwich once they have been released from the Hospital. North Mianus School fourth grade parents may choose to drive to the hospital to bring their child home.

The second bus, which was not involved in the accident, was delayed in returning to Greenwich, but arrived back at North Mianus School at approximately 5:20pm this evening.
