John Yoon To Retire from GHS as Band Director

On Friday afternoon John Yoon, the band director at Greenwich High School sent this email to students and families:

Dear Students and Families,

After almost 35 years of teaching, I have decided to retire at the end of this academic year. This is obviously a very difficult and emotional decision but, ultimately, I believe that it’s the right one for me.  It’s time for new ideas and direction for the band program and I am sure the new leadership will inspire the young musicians to a new level of excellence.  Rejoice with me as I venture forward toward new opportunities and horizons.

I’ve been blessed to lead the Greenwich High School Band program during the past 27 years.  The students that I have been privileged to stand in front of day after day have made a lasting impression on me with their willingness to strive for excellence, while allowing me to witness and share in their amazing growth as they become young men and women.  The supportiveness of the parents has been a major source of inspiration and comfort, especially the “Get-A-Life Club” members.  The memories of my time at Greenwich High School are many and I will cherish every one of them.

God bless you all,
John S. Yoon
