Greenwich Schools Interim Chief Announces English Language Learning (ELL) Coordinator Appointment

Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Salvatore Corda has announced the appointment of Ms. Adriane Hirsch-Klein as the District’s PreK-12 English Language Learning (ELL) Program Coordinator, effective immediately.

In this role, Hirsch-Klein is also responsible for overseeing the District’s Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program.

Ms. Hirsch-Klein has been an English as a Second Language and/or World Language teacher with the Greenwich Public Schools since 2008 and is currently working at New Lebanon School.

Additionally, she provided administrative support for the program this year as previous ELL Coordinator Trudi Durrell transitioned from interim to permanent Assistant Principal at Hamilton Avenue School.

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Learning (CIPL) Irene Parisi said, “We are excited to have Adriane Hirsch-Klein join the CIPL team and share her expertise in providing English language services to students and families. It is clear that she is committed to meeting the needs of the students and families in our English language learning program. The interview committee was thoroughly impressed by her leadership skills and her school readiness outreach programs designed to increase family engagement.”

As Program Coordinator, Ms. Hirsch-Klein is responsible for the design, development and evaluation of the ELL and AVID programs.

Administrative candidates are selected after a comprehensive search and appointment process, which includes widespread recruitment efforts, multiple interviews, and extensive reference and background checks.

After twelve years in public relations for the private sector, Ms. Hirsch-Klein began teaching Spanish and English as a Second Language (ESL) in 2008 with the Greenwich Public Schools at Western Middle School. In 2014, she moved to New Lebanon School as an ELL teacher.

Ms. Hirsch-Klein received a bachelor of arts degree in English and Spanish from Duke University, Durham, NC in 1994; a master of science degree in organizational psychology from Baruch College, New York, NY in 2004; a post masters certification in TESOL/Spanish from Manhattanville College, Purchase NY in 2008; and an educational leadership certification from Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT 2015.
