Greenwich Academy Announces Netflix VP, a School Alumna, to Deliver Graduation Address

Greenwich Academy is proud to announce that Serrena Iyer, Netflix Vice President of Studio Integration and GA Class of 2008, will deliver the graduation address at the school’s 197th commencement on Thursday, May 23.

Ms. Iyer started her career on the Goldman Sachs trading floor but eventually swapped stocks for storyboards. She jumped into the world of animation—first at DreamWorks working on strategy and operations, then at Netflix where she led animation studio strategy and financial planning and analysis. She currently heads the company’s studio integration.

Iyer matches her business achievements with community engagement. During the Covid pandemic, she helped run Off Their Plate, a nonprofit supporting restaurants and fighting food insecurity, and was honored as a Forbes Culture Champion. And a career highlight is having served the nation in 2011—as a staffer in financial policy at the National Economic Council, and most proudly, as the Easter Bunny that same year for the White House’s traditional Egg Roll.

According to the release from Greenwich Academy, “It’s no surprise that Ms. Iyer made her mark at GA. To quote one teacher’s assessment of her at the time: ‘It’s not every day you meet a 17-year-old girl who can solve a Rubik’s Cube in three minutes, make an auditorium full of high school girls roar with laughter every Monday morning when she announces the latest antics of the Math Team, be inducted into the Cum Laude Society as a junior, and write a smart and wry monthly column in the town newspaper. But that’s Serrena Iyer.'”

Iyer has a bachelors in applied math from Yale College and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where she was chosen by her peers as class graduation speaker in 2018.

“We are so impressed with Serrena’s personal and professional accomplishments. What an example of the kind of women GA girls grow up to be,” said Head of School Margaret Hazlett, “We can’t wait to welcome her back to campus.”
