Greenwich 12-Year-Old Math Whiz Kid is Headed to Nationals

Screen Shot 2016-03-14 at 3.57.08 PMLast month Sam Florin, a 7th grader at Central Middle School took first place as an individual at the  MathCounts Southwest Connecticut Chapter Competition at Fairfield University. Since then the 12-year-old’s momentum has continued!

Sam Florin and his CMS math teacher Valeria Palace in Hartford, where Sam placed third and earned a place in Nationals in DC in May.

Coached by Central Middle School math teacher Valerie Palace, Sam explained that at during the Southwest CT Chapter contest he competed as an individual and part of the CMS math team.

On Saturday Sam, accompanied by his family, traveled to Hartford for the State Mathcounts Competition, where he came in 3rd!

What’s next? Sam will be going to Nationals in Washington DC in May, where he and three other Connecticut “mathletes” will make up the Connecticut state team!
