Last month Sam Florin, a 7th grader at Central Middle School took first place as an individual at the MathCounts Southwest Connecticut Chapter Competition at Fairfield University. Since then the 12-year-old’s momentum has continued!
Coached by Central Middle School math teacher Valerie Palace, Sam explained that at during the Southwest CT Chapter contest he competed as an individual and part of the CMS math team.
On Saturday Sam, accompanied by his family, traveled to Hartford for the State Mathcounts Competition, where he came in 3rd!
What’s next? Sam will be going to Nationals in Washington DC in May, where he and three other Connecticut “mathletes” will make up the Connecticut state team!
Congratulations Sam! And good luck at Nationals!
