#givememyhourback Facebook Photo Contest for Teens Announced in Greenwich

We caught a sleepy Cardinal sneaking into Duxiana on Tuesday afternoon to take a nap! He checked out a couple pillows before picking one and crashing in the window display at 15 West Putnam Ave. Duxiana is partnering with Start School Later Greenwich and The Local Vault on a photo contest for Greenwich teens.

Laura Rajovic, owner of Duxiana, said she’d partnered with Start School Later Greenwich as a way to spread the word about the value of sleep.

“Society is not well informed about the importance of adequate sleep, but that’s changing,” she said. “The importance of sleep is near and dear to us, but teens don’t always know how vital it is,” she continued, adding that it’s important for parents to see that their kids get enough sleep. “Just like with making sure your kid goes to the dentist,” she said. “Down the road, they’ll realize that sleep too is essential.”

“Your bedroom should be a restful sleep haven which includes a design that reflects your personality and takes into consideration colors that create a calming and soothing environment,” said Betsy Perry of The Local Vault, the other sponsor of the contest. “It’s important to have a quality mattress, and we recommend turning off electronics 30 minutes before going to bed. These tips are not only good for teenagers but good for adults too.”

Across the street at Greenwich Running Company, who have donated a prize for the photo contest, Chris Goslin and his dog Simon took a moment to chat with the sleepy cardinal. “Quality sleep of appropriate length is as important to one’s physical, mental and emotional well-being as anything else one can do,” Goslin said. Greenwich Running Company is located at 2 Greenwich Ave.
