Recently appointed Old Greenwich School Interim Principal Jennifer Bencivengo picked a brilliant day for an almost back-to-school reading hour on the front plaza of Old Greenwich School.
Tuesday afternoon’s gathering was also a chance for the students to meet their new principal, though it seemed that for the children, Ms. Bencivengo’s name defied pronunciation. Introducing herself as “Miss B” Bencivengo, formerly the assistant principal at North Mianus School, met dozens of eager Old Greenwich School.
After reading aloud her three favorite books – If You Ever Wanted to Bring an Alligator to School, Don’t, by Elise Parsley, School’s First Day of School by Adam Rex and Iggy Peck Architect by Andrea Beaty – Ms. Bencivengo asked all the children to likewise share their favorite books when school starts.
Rising first grader, Stephen Gettings, introduced his little sister Edensor. Ms. Bencivengo told Stephen that in Italian her last name means ‘something good’s coming.’ A moment later he offered his own translation for his little sister.
“I speak baby,” he said.
