After Greenwich High School Junior Dies, School Community Mourns Her Loss

On Friday afternoon Greenwich Public Schools superintendent Dr. Toni Jones and Greenwich High School principal Ralph Mayo sent an email to high school families and students announcing a student had died.

“It comes with great sadness that we are sharing the heartbreaking news that one of our students, Renee Chin, a junior in Bella House, has passed away,” they wrote, adding that earlier Friday morning the district’s crisis team, which includes top administrators and members of the Student Supports Dept, were deployed to speak to staff and students directly affected by the sad news.

The letter said mental health support was available at GHS.

“If you are experiencing difficulty, or are concerned about someone else, reach out to your school counselor, mental health provider, or administrator,” they wrote, adding that over the weekend, people could reach out to 2-1-1 of Connecticut. Also, Kids In Crisis has a 24-hour helpline (203-661-1911) for assistance with any issue, including grief counseling.

Jones and Mayo said they would share further updates as they become available.

“We ask that you keep the Chin family in your thoughts while they deal with their loss,” they added.
