Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich Announces Janet Poillon as New Aquatics Director

The Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich this week announced the hiring of Janet Poillon as its new Aquatics Director.

In her new role, Poillon will oversee all aspects of the Club’s aquatics programming, including the Barracudas swim team, swim lessons, recreational activities, and pool operations. She will also lead safety initiatives, manage aquatics staff, and develop innovative programs to support the Club’s mission of developing character and leadership in youth.

“We are thrilled to welcome Janet Poillon to our team,” said Cristina Vittoria, Chief Executive Officer of BGCG in a relase. “Her deep roots in Greenwich, her lifelong commitment to water safety and swim instruction, and her leadership across so many sectors make her uniquely qualified to lead our aquatics department. Janet embodies the passion and dedication that define our mission.”

Poillon is no stranger to the Greenwich community. In addition to her professional career with companies including Amazon, Microsoft, NBC, and BusinessWeek, she has taught swimming to children and adults for over four decades. She’s raised funds for Swim Across America, currently serves on the Greenwich EMS Board, has volunteered with the National Ski Patrol for over 14 years at Stratton Mountain, and recently earned her National EMT certification.

“As someone who grew up in the Greenwich public school system, I’ve always felt a deep connection to this town and its waterfront,” said Janet Poillon. “Joining Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich as Aquatics Director is more than just a new chapter—it’s a chance to give back to the community that shaped me. I’m excited to share my love for swimming and my dedication to safety and youth development with the next generation.”

Poillon’s arrival comes at an exciting time for BGCG. The Clubhouse is currently undergoing a major renovation and expansion, which includes a refurbished pool and completely brand-new locker rooms. The upgraded aquatics center will reopen as part of the full facility reopening in September 2025, providing a modern space for the community to enjoy and for Janet to lead programming that emphasizes safety, skill-building, and fun.

She credits much of her early aquatic training and character development to her mentors in the community.

“Janet was a talented swimmer and a leader,” said Terry Lowe, Janet’s former swim coach and longtime coach of the Greenwich High School boys swimming program, where he led the Cardinals to an astounding 46 FCIAC Championships.”

“Her energy and commitment to excellence will inspire a whole new generation of age group swimmers,” Lowe added. “It is wonderful to have someone who grew up in Greenwich, swimming for local club and high school teams, return to coach a swim program which is so vital to the community. Janet has a total understanding of the town’s appreciation for and commitment to the sport. She will be a tremendous asset to the BGCG swim program.”

Poillon is eager to start getting to know the kids while she begins planning a range of new, exciting aquatics programs designed to energize our community.
