Stamford Police: Student Threatened Via Snapchat to “Shoot Up the School”

A release from Stamford Police Family Services Unit on Saturday said a student had threatened to “shoot up the school.”

According to the release, on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 2:00pm the Stamford Police Dispatch Center received information from the FBI that a shooting threat was made via Snapchat, a social media app that allows users to share photos and videos, known as snaps, with friends.

During the Snap, the student made the threat to “shoot up the school.”

The FBI determined that the phone number associated with the Snap belonged to a Stamford resident.

After an extensive investigation, agents were able to determine the whereabouts of the phone. Agents also determined that the phone was in the confines of Stamford High School.

With this information, Detectives were able to identify the student and her location. A short time thereafter, the School Resource Officer and officers from the patrol division located the student and affected the arrest. A weapon was not recovered within the school.

During the investigation, Detectives learned of two addresses to which the student has direct access.

After speaking with her parents, both residents were searched. The search did not result in the recovery of any weapons.

The student was subsequently transported to police headquarters, where she was charged with threatening 1st degree and breach of peace 1st degree. A court date was set for Friday, September 13, 2024.

This investigation is ongoing pending additional information sought from Snapchat / Snap Inc. The suspect in this incident is cooperating with the investigation.
