Stamford Police Cadet Class Graduates Include Greenwich Native

The Stamford Police Department celebrated the graduation of its newest class of police cadets on Friday, marking the completion of months of hands-on training, classroom instruction and community engagement work.

Among the graduates was Niklas LaBorne, who is set to join the Greenwich Police Department as the agency’s newest recruit.

The ceremony featured performances from the community, including the Roxbury Elementary School 5th Grade Chorus, which opened the event with the National Anthem.

The Greenwich Bagpipe Band both opened and closed the graduation, adding a ceremonial and traditional touch to the proceedings.

The cadet program, run by the Stamford Police Department’s Training Division, is designed to introduce young adults to real-world policing, including patrol procedures, criminal law, emergency response, and problem-solving in the field. This year’s class was recognized for its professionalism, discipline, and commitment to public service.

Greenwich Police Chief Jim Heavey praised the partnership between departments and expressed enthusiasm about welcoming the incoming cadet.

“We are really excited – Nik is a known entirety,” Heavey said. “He lives in town. He was involved with GEMS (Greenwich Emergency Medical Services) and he volunteered at the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Station. He already knows the neighborhood, and our philosophy on policing. So, we are really excited he’s going to be at an advantage to somebody who might have graduated the academy but didn’t grow up in Greenwich.”

Department officials from both Stamford and Greenwich attended the ceremony, along with families, instructors, and community members. The graduating cadets were honored individually before taking the official oath marking the completion of their training.

LaBorne is expected to begin work with the Greenwich Police Department later this month.
