Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company (“RHVFC”) and its volunteer firefighters will bring back its successful “Family Fun Day” to celebrate children and families of the backcountry and all of Greenwich for a third year.
The event will take place on Saturday, April 25 from 1:00-5:00pm at Whitby School (969 Lake Ave, Greenwich, CT 06831). Tickets are available for pre-sale at www.roundhillfire.org.
All proceeds benefit Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Donations to RHVFC are fully tax-deductible.
This year’s event will help fund the nearly $500,000 cost of rebuilding Tanker 6, the largest water tanker in the region. Tanker 6 is especially important to the Greenwich backcountry where there are no fire hydrants.
The “Family Fun Day” event is open to children and families of all ages and will feature a Fire Station Bounce House, an inflatable Fire Truck Obstacle Course, Sports Games, a soccer experience with Soccer With Aldwin, a puppy-palooza from Adopt-a-Dog, as well as Round Hill Fire and GEMS Touch-A-Truck, Face Painters, and Arts & Crafts.
RHVFC volunteer firefighters will also conduct Fire Safety Demonstrations and Scout, RHVFC’s fire dog, will also be at the event. Three Food Trucks and an RHVFC Bake Sale will be on hand to provide food options.
Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company District Chief Sharon Strain remarked “I could not be more excited to have Round Hill Fire lead the third annual ‘Family Fun Day’ event for our community. We sometimes see families on their worst days so it’s extra special to host an event like this that has hundreds of kids smiling from ear to ear. More than 400 people attended last year’s event and we’re expecting even more people this year. It’s a phenomenal event and I am proud our volunteer firefighters will all be on hand to meet the community and have some fun. We hope families from all over Greenwich and our surrounding communities come join us for more fun!”
Committee member Caitlin Del Raso said, “our organizing committee, including many backcountry moms, has come together to support our neighborhood Round Hill volunteer firefighters. These volunteers commit their time to protect our homes and properties, and they also volunteer their time to create and run this incredible event for our community. We are so appreciative.”
RHVFC President David Chass added, “Family Fun Day presents another opportunity to connect with our community, to raise awareness that we are all volunteers, meet new neighbors, and perhaps even find a few new members to join us to protect the backcountry and all of Greenwich. It’s going to be a fun day for sure!”
Celebrating 75+ Years Serving the Greenwich Backcountry
For nearly 80 years, the volunteer firefighters of RHVFC have provided first response emergency services, protecting life and property, to the Greenwich backcountry.
In that time, our members have responded to more than 12,000 incidents, ranging from traffic accidents and downed power lines to hazardous material spills and fully-involved structure fires. Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company is the only all-volunteer fire company in Greenwich.
Today, RHVFC’s members continue to serve the backcountry, working hand-in-hand with Town career firefighters, not only in the Round Hill fire district, but also throughout greater Greenwich when additional resources or apparatus is needed. RHVFC responds to an average of 400-500 emergency calls per year.
RHVFC is an independent volunteer fire company that is affiliated with, but only partially funded by, the Town of Greenwich. Each year its members must raise more than $75,000 to fund its annual operating expenses.
This year, RHVFC had to commit nearly $500,000 to send its water tanker, the largest in Connecticut, to be rebuilt. Round Hill’s volunteers rely on the community’s support so they can better serve you, your family, and your neighbors.
