Greenwich Police Officers patrolling West Putnam Ave on Saturday around 2:30am observed a car stopped on the side of Edgewood Ave about 100 yards north of the intersection with West Putnam Ave.
Due to the recent rash of burglaries, officers checked on the vehicle, which was parked in a suspicious manner. Upon approaching the passenger side of the car, officers smelled unburnt marijuana emanating from within the vehicle.
A K-9 sniff was completed and yielded an organic green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana.
Additionally, a digital scale, rolling papers and US currency were seized.
Through further investigation it was determined that the driver, Nicholas B Richards, 20, of 52 Linden St. in Norwalk had red glassy eyes and the odor of both alcohol and burnt marijuana. Richards was asked to submit to a series of standardized field sobriety tests, which he subsequently failed.
Richards was charged with DUI under 21, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Illegal Manufacture, Distribution or Sale of Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana. He was able to post bond of $250 and was assigned a court date of Dec. 22, 2014 in Stamford Superior Court.
