Police Begin to Enforce Ordinance Closing Greenwich’s Parks

Greenwich Police on Monday morning announced that over the weekend they enforced the order closing town parks, which was issued by First Selectman Fred Camillo on March 22 to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Lt Mark Zuccerella said 11 people were stopped and advised the parks needed to be cleared.

“Some were kids playing, others were people just walking,” he said, adding no fines were issued.

Monday afternoon First Selectman clarified that everyone who was spoken to by police had been congregating. He said it is acceptable to walk along through a park.

One individual was arrested after he was caught by a caretaker at Tod’s Point climbing over the fence to enter the park at 6:20pm on Friday, March 27.

Jonathan Berry, 27, of Weaver Street in Greenwich was issued a misdemeanor summons for Criminal Trespass 3. He was assigned a court date in Stamford Superior Court on May 8, 2020.
