North Street School Evacuated Briefly after Alert Officer Detected Odor of Gas

North Street School was evacuated Monday morning, the same morning that families throughout the district learned there would be no school bus service after all drivers called in sick.

According to Captain Mark Zuccerella, a Greenwich Police Officer assigned to the school security detail at North Street School smelled the odor of gas inside the school.

Zuccerella said the Fire Dept was contacted and responded.

“The students were evacuated as a precaution while the Fire Dept attempted to locate the source of the odor,” he added.

After the Fire Dept located the source, an HVAC issue, Zuccerella said they rectified the problem quickly and students were returned into school and started their day.

There were no reported illness or injuries.
