Greenwich Spared from Major Flooding over Weekend of Heavy Rain

From Greenwich Police, Monday, Aug 19

Thankfully, the town had minor impacts from yesterday’s rain.  The Town of Greenwich had some minor street flooding, a tree that fell, causing a road closure, and brief power disruption for a few residents in town, but overall, we are thankful the town didn’t experience any major issues.

Unfortunately, many cities in the state are dealing with significant damage this morning, and there are reports of missing people and someone who was killed in yesterday’s flooding incidents.  Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been injured, lost their life, or have been impacted by the recent flooding rain.

The weather patterns continue to bring significant rain storms to our area, and we anticipate a very active hurricane season.

As a community, we must ensure we do not become complacent and realize an emergency can happen at any time that can impact our ability to travel, access power, banking, or communicate with our family and friends. If residents haven’t started to prepare for emergencies such as flooding or long-term power outages or haven’t reviewed their family emergency plan, now is a good time to do so.

In addition, Greenwich residents and business owners are encouraged to sign up for Greenwich Emergency Alerts at www.GreenwichAlerts.org.

In addition to signing up for Greenwich Emergency Alerts, residents can also find preparedness information to better prepare their homes and families for unexpected emergencies.

FEMA offers family emergency planning at FEMA Ready.gov/Plan  and has a multi-hazard guide families can use for planning FEMA Multi-Hazards – Be Prepared for Any Hazard

If residents are on social media platforms, please consider following the Town of Greenwich, Greenwich Police, Fire, EMS, Public Health, Public Works, and Greenwich Office of Emergency Management pages, where residents can access preparedness information, severe weather alerts, and emergency information.

Information changes quickly in an emergency. The Greenwich Emergency Management Team will update as many channels as possible to get critical information to residents promptly.
