Flash Floods and Tractor Trailer Crash Snarl Traffic in Greenwich on Sunday

A flash flood warning was in effect in Greenwich until 3:30pm on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service, and many parts of town were under water.

Binney Park pond was more like a lake and I-95 came to a halt southbound after a tractor trailer crash around 9:30am caused all lanes to be closed. Live traffic cameras were blurry but told the story. Residents reported hearing the crash from the area of Hamilton Avenue and traffic backed up for miles.

According to CTRoads the truck went down an embankment between Exits 3 and 2.

On local Facebook groups including ‘Greenwich Connections and Byram Neighborhood Association residents warned of bumper-to-bumper traffic as drivers sought detours on the Post Rd and back roads the west side of town. One resident posted a photo of bumper to bumper traffic on Comly Ave leading to King Street and points north. The BNA posted a major jam at the traffic circle on the state line by Carvel heading into Greenwich.

As of 4:30pm, the National Weather Service downgraded the warning to flood watch, in effect until Monday at 2:00am and traffic on I95 was flowing in both directions.
