UPDATE: Greenwich Man Charged with Eavesdropping, Disorderly Conduct

This post has been updated to include an explanation of the charge of Eavesdropping.

On March 19 Greenwich Police arrested Helder Dias, 54, of 21 Harold Ave in Greenwich for an incident that stems back to Jan 23, 2018 in Chickahominy.

Mr. Dias, who turned himself in to Greenwich Police on Monday, was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Eavesdropping.

According to Lt Nemecek, the suspect was recording private conversations both with a tape recorder and video without the other party’s consent.

Nemecek said Eavesdropping is when a person unlawfully engages in wire tapping or mechanical overhearing of a conversation. The charge is a class D felony. “It all comes down to a reasonable expectation of privacy,” Nemecek said.  “In private conversations, behind closed doors, you have a reasonable expectation of privacy. In a public setting, that expectation drops.”

His bond was set at $10,000 and he has a date in Stamford Superior Court on April 20, 2018.
