GPD: Forgery, Interfering Suspect May Be Linked to South American Theft Group

On Saturday at approximately 6:30pm Greenwich Police responded to the area of Alpine Rd on a report of a woman, later identified as Kemberly Gagliano of unknown address, operating a suspicious BMW without a visible registration plate.

Upon locating the vehicle, stopped on the side of the road, Gagliano was observed in the driver’s seat and its engine and headlights on. When Police approached the vehicle and spoke with Gagliano, she attempted to identify herself using a Mexican passport which listed her name as Angelica Santos Chavez.  She claimed that she was parked waiting to pick up her friend.

In addition to the passport, Gagliano provided a Mexican Driver’s license, a Mexican International Driver’s license and a NJ paper registration to the vehicle. The Mexican passport, Mexican Driver’s License and Mexican International Driver’s License were later all determined to be fraudulent.

Officers observed within Gagliano’s vehicle a second registration plate from Ohio, a Sawzall container, flashlight, dark pieces of clothing, dark hats and dark gloves partially underneath the rear passenger seat.

Based on the Officers training and experience, the items observed in the rear of the vehicle are known to be commonly used to commit burglaries.

After being presented with the facts and circumstances, Gagliano stated that she did not want to speak with Officers anymore and requested a lawyer.

As of Monday, police said they believe Gagliano may be connected with a South American Theft Group (SATG) that have been linked to possible burglaries that have occurred recently in Greenwich.  The Greenwich Police Department is continuing to investigate further.

Several Greenwich Police Units, a Police K9 Unit and Westchester County Arial Helicopter Unit searched the area for any other potential burglary suspects in the area which met with negative results.

Gagliano was arrested and charged with the following:

C.G.S. 53a-167a – Interfering with an Officer – two counts
C.G.S. 53a-139 – Forgery 2nd Degree
C.G.S. 14-147(c) – Improper Use of Marker, License, or Registration Plate

Gagliano was held on a $100,000 bond and assigned a court date of Dec 2, 2024 in Stamford Superior Court.

Last week Greenwich Police said recent residential burglaries in town were believed to have been committed by a group known to Law Enforcement as the “South American Theft Group,” an element of a Transnational Criminal organization. The group targets high-valued homes in the tri-state area that are or appear to be vacant at the time of the burglaries.

Police remind residents to use precautions with their residences when not at home, such as using an alarm system, motion lights outside, timed lights or TV on inside, and do not leave mail, newspapers or other packages outside.
