GPD: South American Theft Group Believed to Have Committed Burglaries in Greenwich

Greenwich Police on Tuesday shared news on recent residential burglaries within the Town of Greenwich that are believed to have been committed by members of a group known to Law Enforcement as the “South American Theft Group,” which is an element of a Transnational Criminal organization.

This South American Theft Group has targeted high-valued homes in the tri-state area that are or appear to be vacant at the time of the burglaries.

The Greenwich Police Dept has been working in conjunction with New York Law Enforcement agencies on these burglaries, and recently New York authorities made several arrests involving members of the South American Theft Group.

“It is believed that some of these arrested subjects may have been involved with burglaries committed here in Greenwich, and these investigations are still ongoing,” Lt Smyth said.

Police remind residents to use precautions with their residences when not at home, such as using an alarm system, motion lights outside, timed lights or TV on inside, and do not leave mail, newspapers or other packages outside.
