On Friday night Port Chester Police gave an update on recent incidents involving arson of motor vehicles. They said that on Thursday night, after a lengthy investigation, their detectives charged Fredy Hernandez-Paz, 30, with 9 counts of Arson in the 3rd degree, which is a class C felony.

Furthermore, a search post arrest located a 30 round magazine with armor piercing bullets, (no weapon), which resulted in an additional charge of a Large Capacity Ammo feed device, a misdemeanor.

“We thank all the area residents/establishments for cooperating in providing video, which helped identify the suspect,” Port Chester Police wrote. “At this time, there is no motive the suspect would provide for his actions, however he did admit to his acts.”

PCPD said the suspect was arraigned Friday in Rye Town court and released with a future court date, due to recent changes in the law.

Port Chester Police commended Det. Carriero and Det. Morales on their dedication and non-stop efforts in identifying and locating the suspect.

Last week Port Chester Police announced that on July 8, around 3:45am four suspicious vehicle fires occurred in the area of Washington Street, which is a few blocks north of the Boston Post Road.

Back on June 11, around 4:00am, Port Chester Fire Dept responded when three cars were set ablaze along residential Spring Street – a block from Washington Street – and several other cars were damaged from heat, smoke and water. At the time they said Westchester County Cause & Origin Team investigated the vehicles and determined the cars were intentionally set on fire.
