Greenwich Police announced that their department along with other departments throughout Fairfield County were investigating a spree of motor vehicle thefts in recent days.
On Feb 12 police received an initial report of a suspect vehicle associated with car thefts spotted in Greenwich’s central business district in the area of East Elm St.
After police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Yamari Dior Davis, 18, of New Britain, rammed two police cars while fleeing the area in a reckless fashion.
The suspect vehicle then crashed on I-95 in Norwalk.
The suspect was stopped a short distance away and investigators were able to determine that Mr. Davis was one of at least three occupants of the suspect vehicle based on him being located in close proximity to the crash and the fact he was wearing clothes similar to that of persons observed running from the crash site.
Further they said the suspect was unable to explain how he arrived in Norwalk from his home in New Britain and was wearing shoes that left a uniquely distinct impression in the snow adjacent to where the vehicle was located.
Then, police said, after an obviously fabricated story about staying with his grandmother that was later verified as false, it was determined there was Probably Cause and arrested Mr. Davis. He was charged with Criminal Attempt Larceny 1, Interfering with an Officer/Resisting, Conspiracy To Commit Assault 3 and Conspiracy to Commit Reckless Endangerment 1.
His bond was set at $50,000 which he was unable to post.
He was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on Feb 26, 2025.
