The YMCA of Greenwich announced on Thursday that Patrick Kennedy has been named as its new Marlins Swim Team Head Coach. Patrick will join the team on January 10, 2022.
Patrick brings almost 15 years of elite level competitive swim coaching experience to the YMCA of Greenwich. He’s currently the Head Senior/Age-Group Coach at Texas Ford Aquatics (TFA) in Frisco, Texas, where he has been coaching since 2015. Prior to TFA, Patrick coached for the City of Plano Swimmers and Metroplex Aquatics in Texas. His accomplishments include coaching swimmers to top 100 All-Time in age group rankings; Texas State Championships; Futures, Summer, and Junior Nationals; as well as the Olympic Trials.
“We’re very excited to welcome Patrick to the YMCA of Greenwich,” said Matthew Skaarup, CEO, YMCA of Greenwich. “Patrick brings a broad range of knowledge and experiences that will benefit our student athletes greatly. We’re really looking forward to his arrival.”
Patrick was a NJO qualifier in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke while swimming for the City of Plano Swimmers and Plano Senior High School in Plano, Texas, and a Texas State Record holder in the 200-freestyle relay for 15-16-year-old boys. He graduated from the University of Arkansas, where he swam for four years.
“I’m looking forward to working with a wonderful group of student athletes who will help us continue to grow and further develop the Marlins’ swimming program,” Kennedy said. “I am also honored to be joining such an accomplished team of coaches and am excited to partner with them and build on the success of the Marlins Swim Team.”
Patrick is still an active competitor in Masters Swimming, having finished in the top 2 at United States Masters Swimming (USMS) National Championships in the 200 breaststroke. In 2019 Patrick was the USMS “Go the Distance” National Champion for the 45-49 age
group.
