The 16 athletes have worked harder than they’ve ever worked before. They never gave up. They held each other accountable, pushed each other, trusted each other, trusted their training, and most importantly, they trusted the process.
They have been working tirelessly since May of 2024 to achieve this goal.
Led by Head Coach Julia Vyskocil, this team has made history twice, first with an FCIAC win on February 1 after a 21 year drought, and on Saturday claiming the CT State title at the CIAC Championship. And these athletes are not done.
They have qualified to compete at the Team of the Year State Opens competition Saturday, March 8, and New England Regionals competition on March 22 in Worcester, MA.
Senior Cheer Captains, Sierra Erensen, Siera Rollins and Jane Trager, were asked to summarize their sensational season thus far.
“Never have we experienced a team so dedicated and driven to succeed. Since the beginning, this team has shown that there is something special this year and that we have something to prove,” the captains said.
“The countless hours pushing ourselves above and beyond, trying to reach perfection was unmatched. Every girl on this team has shown so much love and trust with each other; in a sport like cheerleading which relies so heavily on teamwork, the need for everyone to be all in and giving 110% everyday is essential for success. It’s a demanding task and this team was up and ready for the challenge. Since the summer this team has been constantly working hard, critiquing and training because we knew the potential and talent this team had would take us far. This season has been everything we could have dreamed of – as seniors we have been working for this moment for years.”
The girls said the program had been building up and getting closer to a win each year.
“We never took our eye off the prize, and the losses made us more driven to win. Our success is a testament to the unwavering support and dedication of our athletes, coaches, and fans. We are so proud to have been a part of something so great, creating history and elevating the standard for the future of Greenwich Cheerleading.”
Congratulations to the Greenwich Varsity Cheerleaders, your 2025 FCIAC and Class LL State Champions. Let’s go Big Red.
