Joseph Scott Tyminski, 59

Joseph Scott Tyminski of Centerville, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, following a brief illness. He was 59 years old.

Joe was born in Greenwich in 1963 and graduated from Greenwich High School with the class of 1981. Later he attended the University of Tampa, in Florida, where he studied oceanography in pursuit of his life-long love of the sea.

Popular and gregarious, Joe had a gift for making friends wherever he went and was known and loved for his lively sense of humor.  Most recently, he enjoyed many close friendships with his colleagues at the Fairview Walmart. At his home in Centerville he lovingly tended his garden, where he grew magnificent sunflowers as well as his famously hot chili peppers, and generously shared his garden’s bounty.

Above all, Joe’s greatest pleasure in life was his daughter, Jenna Tyminski of Centerville, Tenn. He cherished every moment he spent with her.  As well as his daughter Jenna, he remained a dedicated and loving father to his bonus son Joseph Novakowski of Chicago, Ill.

Joe is predeceased by his father Joseph F. Tyminski  (2015) and Jenna’s mother, Wendy Carlo (2017).

He is survived by his beloved mother Shirley Tyminski of Greenwich, Conn., and his three sisters, Laura Baker of Greenwich, Conn., Terri Tyminski of Helsinki, Finland, and Cindy Tyminski of Fairfield, Conn.  Joe also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and will be remembered fondly for rough-housing and chasing them with child-like abandonment.

A celebration of Joseph’s life will be held in January. Details will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages gifts in Joseph’s memory to the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company #1, 200 Post Road, Cos Cob, CT 06807.
