John Ambrose of Rye, New York passed away suddenly on September 16, 2019, one week shy of his 66th birthday.
John was born and raised in the Bronx, the son of the late Danny and Margie Ambrose.
John, for over 40 years owned and operated the Crab Shanty restaurant, Seaside Johnnie’s and currently the Pier Restaurant and Tiki Bar in Rye.
He will be missed by so many staff and customers who became long-term friends. He mentored so many of his young workers over the years.
He loved the New York Yankees and Cleveland Browns, who quite possibly beat the Jets in his honor. He will forever be remembered for his warm smile, quick wit and tropical Tiki attire of colorful shorts, Tommy Bahama shirts and a wide collection of hats.
John was the devoted and loving brother of Peggy Galloway (Richard Burke), Carol Byrnes (Tim) and Bill Ambrose (Anne Marie). He was a wonderful uncle to Christopher Galloway, Terrence and Kevin Ambrose and Daniel, Brian and Megan Byrnes. John is also survived by his longtime loving companion, Yolanda Ortiz.
To honor John’s life, family and friends will gather on Friday 3:00-8:00pm at Coxe & Graziano Funeal Home, 767 E. Boston Post Rd Mamaroneck, NY.
Funeral Mass Saturday 12:00 noon at St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church. Committal will be private. Memorial donations can be sent to the American Heart Association, www.americanheart.org .
