Alexander Michel deNey, nick-named Sander at birth in honor of his great grandfather, and more commonly known as Alex to his wide circle of family and friends, passed away on June 6, 2026, at the age of 39, in Raleigh, North Carolina. 
Born on September 12, 1986, in Greenwich, Connecticut, Alex was a young man whose warmth, adventurous spirit, and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Chemistry, a foundation that launched a dedicated career in the life sciences and pharmaceutical industry. He worked in pharmaceutical production and quality control for several companies, bringing the same curiosity to his professional life that he carried into every endeavor.
Beyond his career, Alex was a man who lived fully and embraced the world around him. He was adventurous by nature and found joy in travel, hiking, camping, skiing, snorkeling and playing with his dogs, Bodie and Solo. He was an avid competitor in his fantasy football League and a devoted fan of the New York Giants. Whether exploring a distant coastline or cheering on his team, Sander brought an infectious energy and enthusiasm that drew people to him.
Above all, Alex was a devoted son, a good brother, and a great friend. His kindness, loyalty, and sense of humor enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to share his company.
He is survived by his father, Richard deNey, and stepmother, Lia McCarthy deNey; his mother, Denise Mitchell; his sisters, Laura deNey, Aimee deNey, Victoria deNey, Nathalie deNey Rhoads, and Julia deNey; his brother, Sam deNey, his girlfriend, Casey O’Connell, his close friends and cousins, Ben Pearce and Ema Pearce, and his dog, Solo. He will be deeply missed by his large and loving family, as well as by countless friends who considered him
one of their closest.
A memorial service will be held on September 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s in New Canaan. Family and friends are welcome to gather in celebration of Alex’s life and the joy he brought to so many.
May he rest in eternal peace, carried forward in the hearts of all who loved him.
