Tod’s Point Ticket Booth Employee Removed While Town Conducts Review of Gate Access Practices

A post Tuesday on the app Nextdoor.com titled Scam at Greenwich Point described an alleged incident at the Tod’s Point ticket entry booth.

The post had garnered 90 comments by Wednesday morning.

The post was from David Mickelson, a North Stamford man, who said he had given his niece a Town of Greenwich parking pass he bought online from the Parks & Rec website for $40. He said the ticket had never been used, but when his niece tried to use it at the ticket booth she was told that the ticket had been previously used.

“He ‘happened to have an extra ticket,’ and if she had $40 cash, he’d sell it to her. She only had $25 with her and offered to go to an ATM, but he said no, $25 would work, and let her pass,” Mickelson said in his post on Nextdoor.

Of the 90 comments many were just expressions of anger. Others suggested ways to alert the town and submit a complaint. Others asked why anyone would pay so much to go to Tod’s Point when Stamford has a nice beach.

A woman from New Canaan said they had something similar happen when she was told at the booth that her $40 pass had already been used.

“I also bought a car pass along with individual entry passes (you need one for each person in the car). The man at the gate scanned the car pass and said it had been used, but the individual entry passes hadn’t. He definitely didn’t offer an alternative pass and turned us away,” the comment said, adding, “Not sure you’re dealing with a scam but there is no possible way my car entry pass was used prior. I called the Town and left a message – no response. I’d love my $40 back.”

By late Wednesday a Tweet from the Town of Greenwich official Twitter account acknowledged receiving a number of complaints.

“We are taking positive steps by first, removing the employee from operations while we conduct a full review of the gate access practices,” the town said in the Tweet.
