A road closure will take place over two days, starting on election Day, Nov. 3, which is a no school day. The second day is guilt in to account for unforeseen events. The tree is on Town property.
To assist the flow of traffic, Police Officers will be stationed at several corners where Detour signs will be posted:
- Indian Field Road and Osceola Drive
- Sachem Rd and Osceola Drive
- Sachem Rd and Sound Shore Drive
- Sound Shore Drive and Indian Field Rd
- Indian Field Rd and Morningside Drive
Jessie Feda of Lewis Tree Service said the work is being done at the request of the Town Tree warden Bruce Spaman because there are at least three other Dutch Elm trees in the vicinity. Also, the power lines will be protected by the tree coming down, since it will otherwise continue to decline.
The Board of Selectmen voted to approve the road closure from 8:00am til 4:00pm at their Oct. 15 meeting.
