After nearly three decades of local public service, Michael Mason is announcing his candidacy for State Representative in Connecticut’s 151st House District, promising to bring fiscal discipline, common-sense problem solving, and a strong voice for Greenwich residents to Hartford.
Mason, who served on the Representative Town Meeting and the Board of Estimate and Taxation for nearly 30 years, including 12 years as BET Chairman, said he decided to run because decisions made in Hartford are having an increasing impact on Greenwich taxpayers, neighborhoods, schools, and local government.
“For years, I’ve worked to protect taxpayers and ensure Greenwich government lived within its means,” Mason said in a release. “I’ve come to believe that many of the issues affecting our community can no longer be solved solely at the local level. We need someone in Hartford who understands Greenwich, respects local decision-making, and will stand up for the people who live here.”
Mason pointed to rising costs, increasing state mandates, and growing concerns about affordability as key reasons for entering the race.
“Families, seniors, and small businesses are feeling squeezed,” Mason said. “Residents want practical solutions, accountability, and a government that listens. Too often, local voices are ignored while one-size-fits-all policies are imposed from Hartford.”
Mason’s campaign will focus on protecting local control, promoting responsible spending, supporting public safety, and encouraging economic growth that keeps Connecticut competitive for families and employers.
Mason also emphasized the importance of restoring balance and debate in state government.
“Good ideas don’t belong to one party,” he said. “Connecticut is strongest when different viewpoints are heard, challenged, and improved through open discussion. The people of the 151st District deserve a representative who will work independently, ask tough questions, and put the interests of the community first.”
The 151st House District includes portions of Greenwich, Cos Cob, North Mianus, Riverside, and Old Greenwich.
Additional information about the campaign, volunteer opportunities, and upcoming events will be announced in the coming weeks.
