Karen Krause Announces BOE Candidacy, Vows to Restore Constructive Collaboration and Focus on Student Outcomes

In a press release Wednesday, the day after the Greenwich Republicans met to endorse candidates in the November 2025 municipal elections, newcomer, Karen Krause said as a candidate she would pledge to leverage decades of  finance and strategy experience to refocus Board of Education academic priorities and responsible stewardship of taxpayer funds.

In announcing her intention to run for the Greenwich Board of Education with the Republican Party’s endorsement, Krause described herself as a Greenwich Public Schools parent, community volunteer, and financial services executive.

“The recent challenges surrounding the school budget process made it clear that the Board of Education needs someone with deep financial expertise and the ability to deescalate conflicts to find workable solutions,” Krause said in her release. “As an executive who possesses those capabilities, and as a parent of two Greenwich Public Schools students, I feel compelled to step up to provide the leadership and oversight our school district deserves.”

Ms. Krause said she will bring over 25 years of management experience in finance, strategy, and corporate governance in the private sector, and technical expertise honed while earning her bachelor’s degree at Wharton and master’s degree at Harvard Business School. She added that she intends to apply these skills to drive greater transparency and accountability for academic progress in core subjects, ensure responsible oversight of major capital projects, and find operating efficiencies that don’t compromise student outcomes.

Ms. Krause has lived in Greenwich – her husband’s hometown – since 2012 and takes a long-term view of the public school system.

She and her husband have two children who currently attend Cos Cob School. She said they will graduate from Greenwich High School in 2033 and 2037 respectively.

Krause is already active in the local community, providing pro bono strategy consulting to Fairfield County nonprofits, assisting GEMS as a Volunteer EMT, and serving as a room parent at Cos Cob School.

Krause said she was urged by friends to run, and has a reputation for respectful communication and a data-driven approach to problem-solving.

“It’s time to put the conflicts behind us and concentrate on achieving GPS’
mission of educating students to the highest levels of academic achievement,” Krause said. “I’m ready to roll-up my sleeves and engage productively with parents, teachers, administrators, the BOE, and
the BET to ensure Greenwich delivers world-class public education in a fiscally responsible manner.”

Krause said she was grateful for the support she has already received across stakeholder groups and urges Greenwich residents to turn out on November 4 to vote for her platform of constructive collaboration and positive student outcomes.
