Historic District Commission July 8 Agenda Features Proposed Demo of 2 Greenwich Ave

The Historic District Commission’s agenda for their regular meeting on Wednesday, July 8 (in-person) includes a discussion of the proposed demolition of 2 Greenwich Avenue. The meeting runs 7:00 to 9:00pm in the Mazza Room in Greenwich Town Hall, 1st floor, Room 125, 101 Field Point Road in Greenwich.

Plans were recently filed with the Planning & Zoning department from the building owners who propose to demolish the historic 1894 building, along with 10 Greenwich Ave and 10-12 West Putnam Ave, and combine the parcels for a four-story, mixed-use building with 14 residential units and retail space, while reconstructing the 2 Greenwich Ave corner in its Tudor Revival spirit.

While the building is on the National Register of Historic Places, 2 Greenwich Ave does not have a Historic Overlay to protect it. Nor is it a locally designated historic property.

“HDC/DISCUSSION ITEM. 2 Greenwich Avenue is seeking to demolish the existing structure and the two flanking it on either side and it has sparked a great deal of letter-writing and vocal opposition.”

The item is #4 on the agenda and is followed by public comment.
