Greenwich Assessor’s Office Collecting Applications for Senior Property Tax Relief

The Town of Greenwich Assessor’s Office will be collecting applications from February 1st to May 15, 2018 from qualified homeowners for the
following two Senior Tax Relief Programs who meet the eligibility criteria.

The State of Connecticut Tax Credit Program for Elderly and/or Totally Disabled Homeowners (Connecticut General Statute 12-170aa) applicants must be 65 years or older, or 100% disabled per the Social Security Administration, and own or have life use of a property, and have a maximum 2017 gross income of $35,300 for single applicants or $43,000 for married applicants, to receive a tax credit of up to $1,250.

The Town of Greenwich Local Option applicants must be 65 years or older by December 31st, 2017, or the surviving spouse who is sixty (60) years of age or over of a taxpayer receiving relief in the town under this section at the time of his or her death and property is your primary residence for at least 183 days a year and does not exceed $1,327,935 in assessed value on the 2017 Grand List, must be a Greenwich taxpayer for at least one year and no delinquent taxes are owed to the Town, and maximum 2017 gross income for both single and married applicants to receive a tax credit of up to $2,352 is $66,000.

Qualifying income includes the gross amount from all sources including, gross Social Security and tax exempt income. Documentation from all income sources must be provided, including federal income tax forms from 2017. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
