Grannick’s Pharmacy Closes Permanently after 80+ Years on Greenwich Avenue

This week longtime patrons of Grannick’s Pharmacy were surprised to learn that the pharmacy, established on Greenwich Avenue by Irving Grannick in 1942 had closed.

An announcement on the Grannick’s website says: “Thank you for selecting us as your pharmacy and supporting us for so many years. We’d like you to know that Grannick’s Pharmacy has made the decision to close its doors.”

On Wednesday, a crew was filming a commercial at the empty pharmacy when a thunder storm broke.

Back in 1942 Mr. Grannick sensed the potential of Greenwich Ave and opened his business in the middle of World War II. The pharmacy moved to various locations on the Avenue over the years until Mr. Grannick took the wise decision to purchase the building at 277 Greenwich Ave in the 1960s.

The Grannick’s website says the pharmacy closed on Tuesday June 13 and that prescriptions will be “confidentially transferred” to CVS Pharmacy located at 99 Greenwich Ave.

“Your records will be transferred safely and securely and CVS will have your prescription, insurance and physician information,” the notice said.

Six years ago the independently owned pharmacy was featured in Greenwich Time with the headline, “Grannick’s Pharmacy outlasts a changing Greenwich Avenue.”

Indeed, the pharmacy was one of the last family owned businesses, handed down from generation to generation, and marking its 80th anniversary in 2022.

And while Grannick’s transferred prescriptions to CVS, there is an independent, family owned pharmacy that opened in 2010 across the street from CVS called Greenwich Pharmacy, run by husband and wife team Suzanna and Dmitri Daniarov.
