It was a bone chilling day on Monday with temps dipping well below freezing, but The Country Table’s grand opening at 1 Glenville Street in Glenville, drew residents weary from Covid and the winter weather for a new foodie experience.
The eatery fills a void in the neighborhood for high quality grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches, as well as delicious prepared fare to bring home for dinner.
With high ceilings and abundant sunlight, the renovated space features mouth watering displays of roasted meats and vegetables, fresh pastries and artisanal breads. Many longtime residents will remember the location was once home to Katie Favor’s real estate business. More recently it was home to Watson’s Catering.
The store is also spacious for an eat-in experience and on Monday, residents met up for lunch with friends for coffee and a sandwich or salad.
The Country Table is a joint venture of chef Geoff Lazlo and Greg Oshins, lifelong friends who met in second grade at Brunswick School.
Breakfast sandwiches include Bacon, Egg & Cheese on a potato roll and the Delancey, a bagel sandwich with fresh smoked salmon, tomatoes, picked red onion, capers & cream cheese. There are also French pastries delivered daily from New York City.
The coffee is from PATH Coffee Roasters in Port Chester, NY, where founder Jason Richter, is a fourth-generation roaster.
Lunch options feature Chef Lazlo’s gourmet made-to-order sandwiches from fresh, local ingredients including the French Dip sandwich with hot roast beef au jus, spicy mustard & gruyere on a fresh-baked French baguette, or the Roast Turkey sandwich with Vermont cheddar, baby arugula & honey mustard on sourdough.
Chef-curated salads include the Kale and Cabbage Salad with fresh Parmigiano Reggiano, pepitas & apple cider vinaigrette, and the Caesar Salad with garlic croutons, shredded red cabbage & homemade anchovy vinaigrette. Guests are invited to add grilled chicken or poached white shrimp.
Abundant mouth-watering options including Lazlo’s ‘Mill Street Bar & Table’-style whole roasted chicken and and roasted Norwegian Salmon. Each pair well with their roasted broccoli with toasted sunflower seeds and olive oil and their mashed potatoes with garlic and thyme. Another option is the special house-made meatballs and marinara sauce or meat lasagna.
