Gofer Ice Cream Reopens Following 16-Month Rebuild in Cos Cob

Gofer Ice Cream’s location in Cos Cob reopened on Monday, after a 2019 fire forced the business to close and rebuild, a 16 month process.

Located at 522 East Putnam Ave, this is the ice cream parlor’s original location.

The parlor, which was originally constructed in 2003, was the start of the local ice cream chain. The company has also announced plans for an additional shop opening this spring in Stamford.

Gofer Ice Cream has reopened in Cos Cob at 522 East Putnam Ave.

“It has been a long road to get to this point, but the end result is the latest and greatest Gofer and franchise prototype,” said Jay Ragusa, Gofer Ice Cream Founder & CEO. “The new shop comes with several upgrades like expanded products, including more soft and hard serve plant-based ice creams, digital menu and promotion boards, and even our own customer restroom. We are grateful the community has stuck with us and we think
they will be very happy.”

Separately, the company will also open in the Ridgeway Shopping Center in Stamford.

This location, at 2367 Summer Street, will serve the downtown area of the city. The other Stamford shop at 869 High Ridge Road has served the North Stamford territory since 2005.

“We have been looking for several years for just the right location in the downtown area. The Ridgeway location offers good walking and driving traffic, ample parking and nice store front visibility. It has it all and we are excited to open. Growing up in Stamford, I know it will be successful and in some ways reminiscent of the Baskin Robbins that operated there in the 80’s,” Ragusa added. “We have been fairly busy during 2020 and into 2021, not only planning several new shops, but renovating our existing locations in Stamford and Cos Cob.”

Gofer Ice Cream has been serving the Fairfield County community for over 18 seasons and has become a local favorite for many. Stamford’s Ridgeway store launch will expand the footprint in Fairfield County to seven locations. The young franchise, which also opened in New Cannan in May of 2020, has recently been approved to expand into New York State as well and is currently seeking additional franchisees.

Gofer Ice Cream provides premium hand dipped and soft serve ice cream, plant-based ice cream, fat free Gofer Lite, Italian ice, smoothies and Razzles, as well as associated ice cream products and novelties through six retail locations in Southern Fairfield County, Conn. Gofer opened its first store in Greenwich in 2003, and has since grown with shops also now open in Cos Cob, Stamford, Wilton, New Canaan and Darien.

The company is a multi year award winner of “The Best of the Gold Coast”, a people’s choice award conducted through Moffly. More information at GoferIceCream.com or email [email protected]
