Why I’m Running: Trevor Crow for the 36th State Senate District

Submitted by Trevor Crow

As many of you know, two years ago I ran as a first-time candidate for the State Senate in a newly drawn territory, the 36th District, which now includes all of Greenwich and parts of Stamford and New Canaan. While few gave me a shot to win during a traditionally difficult midterm election year, our first campaign came within only 89 votes out of nearly 43,000 cast.

Our message resonated strongly in 2022. This time we will win, and here’s why:
Our incredible campaign supporters from Greenwich, Stamford and New Canaan are hungry for a strong voice in our district who understands people’s needs and has done the homework to develop solutions for bringing the community together. I am a battle-tested candidate with proven experience and expertise on many of our most critical state legislative issues.

At present, there are reasons to be optimistic for the state while remaining clear-eyed about the priorities on which our local representatives need to focus. Job growth and the economy are moving in the right direction while inflation appears to be getting under control again, but housing capacity remains a huge priority for our Governor and state. To continue to grow, we need more housing in order to increase our tax revenue while easing the cost of living.

Our state is also expected to benefit soon from billions of dollars secured by Congressman Jim Himes for highways, bridges, public transportation, and electric vehicles under the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Act. Stamford continues its years-long trend as a growing destination for young people and employers with the addition of innovative high-tech companies that will power the next generation of businesses and employment. Continuing this trend of attracting new business to our district must remain an important focus.

My penultimate goal is to maximize funding for our district. I am a business owner in the district, an MBA holder, and a mother. I see every day how thinly stretched so many are, including but not limited to struggling with financial issues. One stark problem is the very limited availability of early childhood care. The lack of access to affordable care costs the state $1.5 billion per year in lost GDP. A major priority for my campaign is helping families and working parents make ends meet.

And as residents of all ages continue to struggle mightily with depression and anxiety for a host of reasons, there are some that deserve the state government’s attention. My campaign is motivated to end gun violence by doing everything in the General Assembly’s power to keep weapons of war off our streets and nowhere near our schools. Also, with the shocking end of a federal right to choose abortion still creating havoc around the country, rights to make informed choices about one’s own reproductive health care are in need of constant defense – even in
Hartford.

Those who heard my message in 2022 – the 21,000+ voters who put me within a hair’s breadth of winning – know that this is where I stand. My years working in Greenwich and Fairfield County with state-wide issues have given me a clear voice to lead and to prevail over our incumbent. This is why I’m running for the 36th District state senate, and with your support we will close that tiny gap to take back the seat for Democrats in 2024.
