Open letter to the Greenwich Board of Education from Greg Piccininno, Greenwich
Dear BOE,
After the community worked so hard to force through later start times in 2017/18 and the positive impact that has had on our high school students, it is disturbing that this is the most talked about solution. It should not even be a consideration. The mission of Greenwich Public Schools is to educate and a 7:30am start time has a negative impact on that mission.
HOWEVER IF that is the direction, then why aren’t we talking about changing the start time to the private schools for whom we pay for transportation. Why shouldn’t all schools benefiting from our school budget take a hit?
Last I checked, all the GOP BET Members where either childless or sent this kids to private school. The pain should be universal. I do not see any language in the law Sec. 10-281 et al that stipulates that the town cannot dictate when the transportation is provided.
