TABNER: Erickson will improve the quality of life for everyone in Greenwich

Submitted by Kate Tabner

I have known Laura Erickson for over 40 years and she has retained the same characteristics she had when I first met her – she’s smart, sensible and thoughtful. Raised in New Hampshire by a single mother, Laura embarked on a career as a commercial banker after college, then as a mother and into her current role as an exemplary community volunteer here in Greenwich. In that latter role, for the past two years as a Nathaniel Witherell Board member, I have worked with Laura on TNW matters, and I’ve found her to be engaged and constructive in her role as BET liaison.

Laura and I met back in the fall of 1982 and navigated our way through college together managing to have fun and adventures on limited funds. With our school ski passes, we had many runs down icy and treacherous slopes as well as seeing how far the $5 from the ATM would go at the Grand Union.  We also excelled in figuring out how many Ben & Jerry’s pints would fit into the college size freezer.  And I don’t think I would have survived writing my senior thesis without Laura – we both spent too many hours in the library working on them but having study breaks with Laura and laughing helped me tremendously.

Laura believes that by working together we can do better by our town. Greenwich is a wonderful place to live but we need to have comprehensive plans for our schools, local police and fire, and roads, and be a responsible manager of our town resources to meet those needs.  Laura, with her years of banking experience as well as on the RTM, the BOE and the BET, knows how to achieve these goals.

Laura is a caring and thoughtful individual and what matters to her is what matters to all of us – improving the quality of life for everyone in Greenwich.  That’s why I am supporting Laura for First Selectperson.
