Greenwich Decorative Arts Society Speaker Series Returns to the Bruce Museum

Beginning next month, the in-person programs of the Greenwich Decorative Arts Society will return to the Bruce Museum and its new 200-seat auditorium.

The next two programs are the following:

On November 6, William Hosley – a former curator at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art – will present The Great River – Art and Society of the Connecticut River Valley.

“The Connecticut central valley was one of the major culture hearths of the American civilization – blazing trails in art, architecture, technology, industry, agriculture, governance, religion, and social reform.”

On December 4, Beth Wees – Curator Emerita, The American Wing, The
Metropolitan Museum of Art – will present Jewelry for America.

“From Tiffany and Gotham to Dreiser, Marcus + Co and Venture Jewelers, all strove to compete with imported European brands. Lecture concludes with the 20th century artists whose modernist designs paved the way for contemporary innovations.”

The Society’s in-person programs are on Mondays – when the Museum is otherwise closed to the public. The lectures begin at 1:00pm.

Afternoon tea will follow each presentation, and the museum store will be open.

The balance of the Society’s 2023/24 program year has five programs.

The Society’s February and March programs will be conducted as Zoom webinars. This is in consideration that many members either may be out-of-town for the winter or are hesitant to drive in cold weather. You can connect from wherever you are. The April, May, and June programs, completing the program year, will be back at the Bruce Museum.
