PRIHODA: A Con Man v. Democracy

Submitted by Monica Prihoda, Riverside

Imagine you’ve traveled through several time zones, attended two meetings in different countries with other world leaders, continue to campaign and then were expected to perform at a top level debate again before the entire country and the world.  Could YOU do it?

It’s a lot to ask of anyone at ANY age.

Imagine you are able to hit the links, play golf and plot your next moves campaigning to regain the Presidency, replete with lies and all.

Who do you think has a better chance on the debate stage?

BTW if you still believe Mr. Trump to be more coherent, take a listen to his dissertation on sharks from one of his rallies.

The choice before us is clear:  President Biden who will protect voting rights, civil rights, gay rights, women’s rights and has given us a bipartisan Infrastructure and Investment and Jobs Act and much more. Or former President Trump, a ConMan who will continue to unroll rights restrictions, an Infrastructure bill promised but not delivered, someone who deceives people by gaining their trust and persuading them to believe something that is not true.

What did Mr. Trump deliver?   For starters just two examples:

A conservative majority on the Supreme Court that overturned Roe v. Wade which gave a woman the right to make choices regarding her own health and body.  Please note: how many laws regulate men’s bodies?  NONE.

Further, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has suggested a review of other existing laws, i.e. overall review of contraceptives and gay rights, and more.

A Trump conservative majority on the Supreme Court also last week overturned Chevron Deference which, simply put, now curtails the expertise of our federal agencies in matters of Food & Drug, Environmental, Commerce, Transportation, Health, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF),  and many more expert agencies and puts such decisions in the power of non-experts.  Feeling good and secure now?

There’s much more to unpack, and fudge the age.

The choice is clear:  Democracy v. Authoritarianism.

I’m sticking with President Biden.

Respectfully,
Monica Prihoda
