MELILLO: Nothing in proposed mural conveys Old Greenwich, its colors, rich history or landmarks

Submitted by Andrew R. Melillo, Greenwich

The proposed mural for Old Greenwich from RiseUp, as shown in the initial image of it in the Greenwich Free Press article (Mural Proposed for Sound Beach Ave in Old Greenwich dated April 4, 2023) absolutely does not fall in line with the “initial design scope is to create a mural that welcomes visitors to Old Greenwich while honoring the rich history and landmarks of the community.”

There is nothing about the current proposed mural that conveys Old Greenwich, its colors, its rich history, or its landmarks.

In fact, it is terrifically ugly and uncharacteristic of the ancient village of Old Greenwich.

If something that monstrous gets forced on all residents under the guise of “welcoming visitors to Old Greenwich while honoring the rich history and landmarks of the community” …I’ll be the first to paint over it with something that actually effectuates that.

Mean what you say. Start over. Do Better. Downright hideous and unthoughtful. Work harder.

Kind Regards,
Andrew R. Melillo
