Letter: Camillo Fights for the Needs of Disabled Adults in Our State

Letter to the editor submitted by Lynn S. Arezzini, Cos Cob

I am someone who votes first for the person and second because of his or her party affiliation. Fred Camillo, the Independent and Republican candidate for representative for the 151 st district, is someone who has earned my vote time and time again. I will now relate a personal story that demonstrates the tenacity, problem solving skills and compassion, which our Cos Cob legislator possesses.

I approached Fred as a mother who needed help for her son with autism. Fred and other local politicians were invited to my house for a forum on the needs of disabled adults in CT on July 25, 2014.

Ever since that July day four years ago, Fred has never stopped fighting for the needs of disabled adults in our state. When my son was denied funding year after year, Fred helped raise funds from local and state charities for much needed community supports. These supports made it possible for my son to live an independent and productive life in his own apartment.

I am a member of a grassroots parent group, which has been able to help pass laws to protect the disabled in our state. Fred goes to every hearing and is always one of the first to co-sign bills, which our group supports.

The political advocacy I participated in with legislators like Fred Camillo has helped our family this summer. After ten years of waiting, my son finally received his residential funding from the
state.

Even though my son’s life is more secure now, I will not stop advocating for the most vulnerable in our state and neither will Fred Camillo. My story illustrates how Representative Camillo will go the extra mile for his constituents and will work in a bipartisan manner to get the job done.
