Camillo: Courpas is Strong Advocate for Local Control

Submitted by First Selectman Fred Camillo

As a former state legislator, I know the hard work that goes into constituent service as well as lawmaking. Those are two critical parts of the job of being a legislator, but there is a third component that is very important that sometimes gets overlooked. That is strong advocacy for one’s district in the face of constant interference in local affairs by the state legislature. In this case, the majority party continues to launch assaults on local autonomy and the right of a municipality to determine its own operations and destiny.

In Greenwich, we are fortunate to have one state legislator, who actually stands up and is heard when it comes to lawmaking, constituent service, and determined advocacy for local control. That legislator is Tina Courpas.

As someone who has to debate and testify every year when a member of the Democratic Party puts out legislation to circumvent local zoning, I am always pleased to see Tina standing beside me, not only testifying, but working hard behind the scenes to keep our beautiful town and its decisions in the hands of those who know it best: its residents.

I strongly endorse Tina for another term in Hartford representing the 149th District.

As a town, we are lucky to have her representing us in Hartford. As a first selectman, I am grateful knowing she has our backs at the State Capitol.
