Dogs and dog lovers alike will return to Roger Sherman Baldwin Park on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 10:00amto 4:30pm for Puttin’ on the Dog.
The annual event benefits Adopt-A-Dog, the regional rescue that saves hundreds of dogs from abuse and neglect each year.
This is the 36th annual event and is open to all ages. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are invited to attend too.
Attendees will enjoy a day in the park with pet demonstrations, two live bands, food trucks, kids’ games, and dozens of local vendors. Dogs will love the lure course and other competitions like “clever K-9 tricks”, “best tail wager,” and “pooch who can smooch.”
The famous Puttin’ on the Dog costume contest will turn pups into superheroes, ballerinas, cowboys, and whatever else their creative owners can imagine.
Event tickets are on sale now at adoptadog.org. Adult tickets are $25 each with seniors and children over 5 getting in for $10 each. Early-bird ticket buyers can get 2 for $40.
“We look forward to this event so much each year,” said Christine Amato, Executive Director of Adopt-A-Dog. “It’s a really fun way to connect with the community, enjoy the day with some amazing dogs, and remind people about the important work we do at the rescue shelter.”
In fact, many of the shelter’s adoptable dogs will be on site to meet event goers. Multiple other shelters in the area have also been invited to bring available dogs and cats.
Additionally, she said, it is the nonprofit’s most important fundraiser of the year.
“Adopt-A-Dog has only been able to be a beacon of hope for dogs in need because of the generosity of this community,” Amato said. “Over the last 40 years, they’ve helped save thousands of dogs, with many families opening their homes and hearts to a dog through fostering and adoption.”
The money raised from Puttin’ on the Dog also helps fund rescue transports, emergency medical care and the ongoing operations of the Armonk, NY shelter which typically houses about 30 to 40 dogs every day.
Thanks to corporate sponsors, the majority of revenue from ticket sales goes to support the mission. Pet Pantry Warehouse, H/3 Foundation, Cornell University Veterinary Specialists, the First Bank of Greenwich, Houlihan Lawrence, and Charles Schwab are providing underwriting.
